OTU Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Bold and intensely vibrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - distinctively Awatere Valley, this wine is sourced solely from our finest steeply terraced, north facing blocks on the OTU Wine Estate.

The 2021 vintage may be considered one of the finest in recent memory, although crops were very low. Ideal conditions during ripening, followed by dry, warm weather led to rich, ripe grapes with excellent acid balance. To ensure added texture and depth, after fermentation, the wine was kept on light lees for three months until bottling.

Our wild, wind swept Otuwhero Estate is set at the edge of the South Pacific Ocean - where the ancient Otuwhero River runs through the lower Awatere Valley in Marlborough New Zealand

80% of our vines lie on steep hillsides, control of water is vital to vine balance and crop management. We lay down two canes on almost all of our hillside vines - less fruit and more open canopies result in more reliable ripening, even in challenging vintages.

The grapes were cold pressed at the winery and the juice fermented with aromatic yeasts over three weeks, before extended yeast lees contact for three months.
